You Can Stop the Flu

Written by Amedisys

It’s beginning to look a lot like flu season—a time when we all need to take preventative measures to keep ourselves healthy, along with those we care about. The following steps can help prevent the spread of influenza.

[action 1]

1. Get vaccinated.
According to the CDC, getting an annual flu vaccine is the first and best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu. The flu vaccine can reduce flu illnesses and flu-related hospitalizations, doctors’ visits and missed work/school due to flu. It is especially important for healthcare workers to get an annual flu vaccine to help protect those who depend on us – at home and at work.

Only injectable flu shots are recommended this year. Live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) – or the nasal spray vaccine – is not recommended this flu season due to concerns about its effectiveness. To read more about this flu season’s prevention recommendations, visits the CDC website.

2. Wash your hands thoroughly – and often – with soap and water.

3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth to prevent spreading viruses.

4. Stay home if you are sick to prevent infecting others. If you’re not sure if you have the flu, click here to learn more about flu symptoms and what to do if you get sick.
